Anwar Ahmad Ansari (born February 21, 1972) is an Indian social entrepreneur and politician. He currently serves as the State Vice President of the Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee and the National Vice Chairman of the All India Congress Committee, Minority Department, New Delhi. Additionally, Mr. Ansari is the Chairman of The Chotanagpur Handloom & Khadi Weavers’ Co-operative Union Ltd., Irba, Ranchi, Jharkhand, India
The Chotanagpur Handloom & Khadi Weavers’ Co-operative Union Ltd. focuses on protecting and promoting the Livelihoods of weavers’ communities in the state of Jharkhand. Mr Ansari is recognized as a prominent leader within the Momin Ansari community of Jharkhand and is actively engaged in various social initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of weavers’.
When Mr Ansari assumed leadership of The Chotanagpur Handloom & Khadi Weavers’ Co-operative Union Ltd. on December 28th, 2015, the organization was on the verge of collapse. Under his guidance, it has become a rapidly expanding entity, committed to uplifting the Momin Ansari community, empowering women’s, and supporting marginalized groups.
Life and Education
Anwar Ahmad Ansari was born to Abdur Razzaque Ansari and Bibi Nafirun Nissa in Irba, a picturesque village in Jharkhand. As the youngest of five sons, he spent his formative years in Irba, where he also completed his education.
His father, Abdur Razzaque Ansari, was a dedicated handloom weaver who worked tirelessly to unite the weaver community by establishing cooperative societies across the Chotanagpur region. His leadership and impactful work earned him respect and recognition, both within the community and from political leaders. This esteem led to his election as a Member of the Legislative Council in 1958 and, later, to his appointment as a Cabinet Minister in the Bihar Government. Inspired by his father’s unwavering commitment to social welfare, Anwar Ahmad Ansari aspired to continue improving the lives of those around him.
After earning his degree from Ranchi University, Mr. Ansari moved to Calcutta, where he launched a family textile business. In 2007, he briefly explored the media industry, working as a Senior State Coordinator for Electronic Media. Later that year, he returned to Ranchi to further the family’s business endeavors. Today, he serves as the Chairman of The Chotanagpur Handloom & Khadi Weaver’s Cooperative Union Ltd. (formerly known as The Chotanagpur Regional Handloom Weavers’ Co-operative Union Ltd.), an organization that remains a testament to his father’s legacy and vision.
